Maybe it is the different content? How many of the KU titles are in OverDrive if any? Could also be that some rather pay for support of indies?

Also many KU users (not the ones here frequenting MR) will simply sign up because it is unlimited and easy to budget. Many, I suspect, will not even check what is available beforehand or even calculate if it is anywhere near worth the money depending on how much they read.

And we have to see how aggressively Amazon will advertise and bundle KU. Fire phone comes with 1 year free prime. If we see a new model Kindle eink device this year, it may bundle with a year free KU.
