Cat scratches are not nearly effective enough? Since you don't like them, you wouldn't have one. But if you had one (we got two) and one tries to jump on the bed at night, misses the bed, but manages to dig its back claws into your arm to pull the rest of the way up... Well let me tell you, it hurts. A lot. Instantly. Enough to wake up with a loud scream. Last time one of our cats did that to me, I ended up with 3 scratches a few inches long on my biceps. Those took some days to heal all the way up. Not sure what would happen if the same 14 pound cat meant to do harm.
