The part most likely to be damaged in a drop is the screen (the bottom layer is glass). If the screen is OK, you're probably fine. If there is a tiny crack on the inside of the screen somewhere, it could develop into a large crack over time.

Mostly likely your screen is just fine. My Kindle falls off my bed onto a hardwood floor several times a month, and it hasn't broken yet. I keep mine in the Amazon cover.
