Luckily the battery in the PE (probably the EE, not sure) are LiPo and should last a long time. I still get ~6 hours of heavy tablety use out of mine (web browsing etc) and 11-13 hours of straight ereader use. So it is holding up well.
I will probably replace it with something else in the next year or two, though. The Boox looks fantastic and I have my heart set on the Earl, too (meetearl.com)
