No, this is not related to your problem.
It does not sound like a correct behavior, if you called nickel from the start menu. Maybe nickel was started automatically after booting? Did you edit the usersettings to prevent this? See here. Sorry, I know this is a pain. I will change this in future packages.
Any idea how to identify the devices that need this switch?
