Another Napoleonic series, less well known in North America but still ongoing, is Alexander Kent's Bolitho series. I read the early ones a long time ago, well before the Aubrey/Maturin books were written, and I liked them a lot. But I've got a bunch of them in my TBR right now, thanks to some Kobo codes, and I will probably start on them soon. (note: these are not in the time period requested by the OP. )
