I have it sideloaded on my Fire, but I bought the version from the Amazon store (so that it's associated with the same account as my Fire).

I wouldn't call it lousy just not great , it works fine for quite a lot really. Any free app from the Play store can be sideloaded without the need of a second Android device, but yes with paid apps, if they're protected, you run into issues. It's a bit of hoop jumping to sideload stuff, but I've not yet run into something that I want & can't get (which of course will be a personal thing).

I wish someone else made a tablet in the quality/price/spec range of the 8.9 Fire HDX, but at least when it came out no one did (don't know now).
