I also think adding the time stamp is much easier. As models for backing up files with timestamp, and restoring them with original name one could take back_up_db.sh and list_dbgz.msh, apart from that they compress and uncompress the files in addition. But I will try to come up with some more generic scripts that can easily be used as templates, maybe this evening or tomorrow.
One problem with the time stamp is that, if listed in the menu, the file name is often to long to be fully displayed, and then you cannot read the important part.For the database back ups I have abbreviated the names to db_timestamp, but if you back up several different files the different abbreviations might get confusing. One possibility is decreasing font size, and switching to landscape mode. But this has also its limits.
