It can use all of it, but you probably wouldn't want to put 10,000 books on it, given the current cataloguing system of the Sony. Personally, I don't really see a need for an SD card at all, unless you're reading image-based PDF files or something like that. The internal memory will easily store 100+ "normal" books.
