For me, it certainly is. I have an iPad Mini and a Paperwhite 2. My hands get tired after 30 minutes with the Mini. The PW2 wins hands down for reading. It is just perfectly designed for one thing.

Besides the weight, any LCD tablet is backlit, and so, by design shines into your eyes. The PW2 is frontlit and easy on the eyes. You have also yourself observed that the PW2 is comfortably readable when you are out, even in sunlight. You have not mentioned it, but the battery life of the PW2 is measured in weeks, while for an LCD tablet it is measured in day(s).

There have been a number of suggestions about cheap, refurbed Kindles, without front lighting. They overlook that this means going back to reading in bed with a torch, to avoid disturbing your wife.

You acknowledge you are an avid (obsessed?) reader. If you really believe that, return the tablet, and retrieve the PW2!
