Books downloaded thru kindleforpc will always have the ASIN name scheme (amazon product id usually starts with B00).

There will also be .mbp1 and possibly .apnx or .phl files -- these are not books, they are annotations page numbers and highlights for your books.

Some of your books may have DRM on them which would explain why they are unreadable -- if so, doing a google search for "apprentice alf" should help you deal with that. It is against MobileRead policy to give detailed help regarding DRM removal, so that is the most we can tell you.
