Or rather, are you using the Windows 8 Kindle app for Windows 8 (which stores books as app storage in some weird fragmented format in some weird location I cannot remember) rather than Kindle for PC for Windows XP thru 8 (which stores books as mobipocket books -- .azw -- in My Kindle Content)?
