I didn't realise - I don't have my e-books to hand at the moment, but I'm sure I read somewhere in the T&C's for a book I purchased (I don't read these things often, so it could have been from any of the big players) that any attempts to break the security measures was against the terms of purchase.
Probably not illegal, but enough for me to not want Amazon or Kobo etc. to feel I might be doing this to their detriment.

I might be wrong and just imagining it - I'm old and my memory's not what it used to be . When I get a few spare moments I'll have a look at a couple of my purchases from Kobo, Google and Amazon to see what they actually say or insinuate on the matter of DRM stripping.
