calibre 1.46, Mac OS X 10.9.4, ATI Radeon HD 5870 (1024 MB VRAM) running 3 displays via DVI.
Check your calibre-preferences-look and feel-cover grid settings, try adjusting your disk cache setting upward. Let us know if this helps.
