I just wanted to thank davidfor for PMing the image. Downloaded the utilities earlier in the post and rewrote and expanded the image to an 8GB MicroSD I had lying around.
Big test was to sync and update and lo and behold, I'm at 3.3.0! I thought I read that 3.5 was available, not sure why my Kobo Glo only updated to 3.3.0. I'm still happy because its all working again and I can get back to reading.
