You can sideload very easily via USB cable to a Kindle as well - just drag and drop or copy and paste the files to the Kindle's Documents folder. (Or send them through Calibre. Whatever one's preference, it'll work.)
The only thing is that if you sideload through USB, the ebooks will only go onto the Kindle, not to Amazon's cloud, and thus cannot be synced between devices. If you use the email feature or Send to Kindle, you can also keep them in the cloud (with Send to Kindle, this is optional - you can choose whether you want that or not) and sync between several Kindle devices or apps.
