I suspect a lot of people do use GR want-to-read lists a lot like wishlists. I've been sticking a lot of books onto mine - whenever I've seen a friend add something that looks remotely like something I might be interested in; it doesn't necessarily mean I will buy it or intend to read it, but it's a handy list anyway.

Although once I learned about making exclusive shelves, I've used the default Want to Read shelf for those books I already own, and added a separate exclusive wishlist shelf (for which I've been using separate additional shelf designations for "maybe want" and "definitely want").
