First: Front light is much easier on the eye than backlight (for example every LCD). I don't read a book on an LCD in a well lit room, let alone a dark room.

I certainly can imagine people not liking a front light as you will essentiallly be in a dark room watching a 6 inch lit sheet, a clip on disperses the light a bit more.
