A question on battery life and charging the battery

If I charge my Kobo before the battery depletes, for instance between 20-30%, and I keep recharging never below that level, does that reduce battery life?

In other words, is it harmful to recharge the battery when it's not fully depleted?

I have this prejudice(?) that batteries have to be recharged only when they're almost out of juice, else their capacity declines quickly. Not sure where I've learned it.
