I've translated a couple of books, but in a low-tech way. I just get the original text on the screen - never mind what format it is in - and type the translated text into a word processor. I then use whatever tools are available for converting that back into an ebook.
No dobt that's an inefficient approach. But it has the advantage that you can focus on doing the best possible translation, without worrying about ebook formats or conversions.
