If you don't have the DRM stripping plugins, you can load DRMed books into Calibre and it will keep the metadata but lock you out of opening the book. that sounds kind of like what you want. I have no idea if you can toggle out of using them or have to uninstall them for this to work, but I've loaded DRMed books into Calibre like this before.
