White spaces around the cover suggests that the covers do not match the 3x4 ratio of the screen. Not much to be done about that without distorting the image.

The spaces between the lines can be due to the ebook's CSS. For ebooks without DRM, you can either manually edit or use Calibre to edit the CSS. My personal preference is manually editing with Sigil so someone else will have to fill in the details for using Calibre.
