Most people don't really care about the exact original words because it wouldn't change anything for them. Plenty of people will read the revised version even if it has a warning to that effect, and IIRC you yourself are fine with it just so long as there is a warning?

No, I'm not fine with it. I would not read something that had been revised, and I don't know where you're getting any idea that I would. I would like to know SO I CAN AVOID IT. Same way I would avoid an abridgment.
