That probably means the database on the device has become corrupted. Unless you have recent backup, the fix is to logout on the device and then log in again. This will regenerate the database and reload the books into the database and hence the library.
The books you have sideloaded using ADE might need to be handled differently. You will probably need to reauthorise the device after logging in again. And then you might need to resend the books from ADE.
