Clearly set in the same magical universe, but otherwise it could be a stand-alone. An enjoyable fantasy.

That's my next one too, having just nabbed it with a Kobo coupon. I don't do horror, and I don't like gore, but this is just so over the top and the gore isn't too detailed.
I wish Ringo would do more in his Technofall series.
