While it gets dark it not really that dark compared to some UF I tried and had to quit.

I am also reading Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh and see if it hooks me. Right now I am feeling so lost as I know no other series like Fever and I am on a Urban Fantasy kick. It has to have some romantic elements in it though and not be too dark. It's very tough to know where to go from here. One thing I loved about fever was the character development of the hero from being a all American innocent girl to a strong Kick butt heroine. It was awesome to watch that. So I am looking for something that has that element in it.
Some UF series that I love (this is all by series name, not book titles):

* Kitty Norville by Carrie Vaughn
* Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews (the 1st book isn't the best but the series gets exponentially better)
* White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland
* WVMP Radio by Jeri Smith-Ready
* Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
* Alex Craft by Kalayna Price
* InCryptid by Seanan McGuire
* Arcadia Bell by Jenn Bennett
* Women of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong

Don't know if you've tried any of these. They all have amazing heroines and aren't overwhelmingly dark. I especially recommend the White Trash Zombie books. They're way better than the funny titles would suggest.
