Kovid - I wonder if it might perhaps be a database locking issue? One thing I have noticed on both the occasions it's happened is that, after I click the "OK" button, the book cover shown on the metadata screen has changed from its proper cover image to the "book with a green cover" image that indicates that the book doesn't have a cover. Might there be a clue there?
