It is already more than hard enough.
Any device will hold at least a few hundred books, and any other than the Nook (that restricts sideloaded books) can hold 1000+, and that gives you enough reading material for a year even as a voracious reader. Assuming all books are on there because you want to read them, there should be no worries.
I rarely venture past 500 MB of used storage and have never run out of books on my device. But then again, I have never been away from the computer for more than a month.

(This takes into account the need to keep ALL favorites for random reference, for most of the memory usage.)
I hate the myth that expandable storage is a must-have for ereaders. Tablets, yes -- because a single movie can be 1GB+ and you can run out of new material in two days if you really try.
And by the same extension, like Billi said -- why must there be any sort of desperate-need-to-have-OMG-NEW-BOOK-immediately!! (!!!) ? Read one of the 1000+ books you already have (which you have because
you want to read them too) and get the new one when you get the chance.
