Maybe the turbines in a plane emit electromagnetic waves at startup or something, seeing they are so large.
Probably the airplane companies want to prevent people charging them for destroying their sensitive electronic devices.
You know, a wire in a magnetic field can generate electricity,which electronic devices are very sensitive to.
I have never tried leaving my laptop on during takeoff,however I have left it on standby without much trouble.
I wonder what people who have bad hearing do with their earmonitors..
