Perhaps the French should not allow any store, market or stall to occupy more than 200 square feet or have more than 50 different products or have more than 1 employee who would personally fetch, wrap, accept only cash and hand the customer their product that must be hand carried back to their residence. That would provide jobs for a multitude of shop workers.
