Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your advice and as luck would have it, I have stumbled onto the fix myself and I do mean stumbled. I was fooling around on iTunes with my Ipad 3 connected and syncing to try and get the book across and getting nowhere as usual. On impulse, I tried dragging and dropping the selected book onto the Ipad icon.

Lo and behold, I could actually see it transferring. When I opened my Ipad, it wasn't there. Dark thoughts of conspiracy against me by Apple began forming in my mind when I happened to notice that at the top menu bar of ibooks, the 'Purchased Books' was highlighted. I clicked on 'Books' and my own book leapt onto the screen with all of the others.
Problem solved. Now all I have to do is remember what I did in the first place to get it onto ITunes. As they say, it is the journey that excites you rather than the end of it. Nah, that's a crock.
