Like JSWolf and yourself, I much prefer to use the more generic and descriptive term "directory", but resort to using "folder" when to do otherwise would lead to confusion with the kiddies amongst us  .

You want to really confuse the kiddies, the best way is to tell them they need to use a command prompt. Watch them go HUH? WHAT DO I DO HERE?
Me, I call a directory/subdirectory what it is and if someone doesn't get it, Google it.
