Aura getting 'Unable to Communicate' message

My Aura keeps getting an "unable to communicate with device" message when I connect to my Mac. Calibre reads the contents of the Aura and an icon for it appears on the Mac's home screen.

This is the error report:

calibre, version 1.43.0
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

Traceback (most recent call last):

DatabaseError: database disk image is malformed

I recently updated Calibre but it's awhile since the Aura updated. This has never happened in Calibre before. Does anyone know what's going on?
