I don't have that problem at all - my T68 mounts the card in a few seconds, and I have 3800 books on it. On the "User Preferences" page I have both the "Only scan Books folder on Internal Storage", and "Only scan Books folder on SDCard" boxes checked, and on the "Homepage Preference" I have "Show recently read books" chosen. I think this latter setting is the important one, because if you have "Show new added books" selected it has to completely scan the card to find the new books.

Have you tried using "Calibre Companion" to manage your books? I find it to be much better than adding books directly from Calibre.

I've just timed my T68 from being completely powered off, to being ready to read a book, and it takes about 35s.
