Attempted downgrading PW1 - update file vanishes
Hi, I’ve been reading here for a while, and finally decided to dip my feet in today.
I’m trying to downgrade my PW1 to 5.3.9 so that I can use the Collections Manager. But my file keeps vanishing. I’ve searched this forum for ‘downgrade’, but nothing seems applicable to my situation.
So far, all I’ve accomplished is the jailbreak, which was just updated to be done on a 5.4.4.2 system (which I have). The Collections Manager needs 5.3.9, so I’m trying to install that. Airplane mode is on so that nothing interferes.
I downloaded update_kindle_5.3.9.bin from Amazon directly by changing the URL, and copied it to the root directory of my Kindle using the OS X Finder. The file is 171.9 MB. The Kindle shows 525.3 MB available before the copy, and when complete, 354 MB available. (It also seems to take an inordinate amount of time to copy over USB2 , something like 8 minutes - I don’t know if that is significant).
I then eject the Kindle, and try to start the ‘Update your Kindle’, but it is greyed out. And when I plug the USB cable back in, the update file is gone and the free space is now 526.3 MB.
Where’d the file go? And what am I doing wrong?
