It's only recently that my blood is acceptable. We have haemochromatosis in the family and, until now, phlebotomies used to end up either being discarded by the haematology team, or on our rose-bushes. (We don't need to buy blood and bone-meal fertiliser in my family.)
I owe the UK transfusion service three units of blood and suppose that they need it more than the roses. So the next time the donation service visits my workplace I shall probably faint again in a good cause...
