I don't know why they do that, but in talking to my associate guy, he mentioned that when they do certain sales, they actually have a link for Canada and one for US. You don't get the discounts unless you are in the right place (really there or vpn access). It may have something to do with publisher agreements, but if it wasn't common before, expect more of it. The last time I got notification of one of these for my blog, there were two separate links.
