Buttons are very important.
I had rooted Nook Simple Touch for a while and it was very awkward to operate it without a home button. You had to install a small app that provided a [very faint] icon on the screen, so that you could click on it at any time and have virtual Home, Menu and Back buttons.
Not a good solution - having a faint icon over the book at all times.
