@rsm: No! Those devices are pretty much EoL, you really, really don't need to block updates. (And, as you experienced, that is a very, very stupid way to do it).

As for USBNetwork, that's a known issue of the whole 3.x-on-DXg thing. I don't have a clue why that is (it's probably very stupid, but I don't have a DX). The usual recommended workaround is to go through KUAL to toggle it.

But on the off-chance that's it's actually working correctly and everyone forgot that the switch in private commands prefix from ` to ~ happened to be in 3.x, try ~usbNetwork instead.
