I'm guilty.
I didn't see that in the initial thread of this or any of the other threads.
I'm curious about the reason for the rule. Is it to help prevent poor quality books from being posted? There are some self-published books that are far better quality than some from publishing companies.
And anyone can create a "publishing company," especially now in the time when practically everyone has desktop publishing capabilities of some kind on their computers and "publishing" is as simple as properly formatting the results and uploading it to Amazon or any number of other vendors.
So, according to the rule, if someone makes up a name, say "Acme Publishing," the books that he or she publishes under "Acme Publishing" can be posted on one of the threads, but one "self-published" using the author's real name cannot be posted? I am not a published author, so my knowledge is bound to be incomplete--am I missing something?
Anyway, I have vetted the books that I have posted pretty carefully--scanning the table of contents, paying attention to ratings (even checking ratings of other books written by the same author), reading or at least scanning over the previews (when I buy the book for myself, I usually read or scan even more than that).
I
do know the rule about posting off-topic. If I have any more to add, I'll go to the appropriate forum/thread.
