I've been using a 4:3 1600x1200 computer monitor for a long time because I like the resolution. I feel that the vertical resolution is more important then the horizontal resolution. an HD (1920x1080) for a computer monitor (it is OK for a 17.3" laptop screen) is silly (IMHO). This is why I've stuck with my 4:3 monitor. But now that we are getting some better widescreen monitors, I can get one. I am getting a nice high resolution monitor (27" ASUS PB278Q 27-Inch WQHD LED-lit Professional Graphics Monitor with a resolution of 2650x1440) and I think that will do great.
One problem I do have with the iPhone 5 is that I constantly have to keep making zooming in because the screen is too narrow.
