After updating my iPad Mini to iOS 7.1.1, I did the same for my wife's iPhone 4.

Have not seen any performance difference. Did have to reset some settings that were changed by the update. This is an important step to keep overall performance and battery life the same. Some settings DO change, contrary to what Apple claims.

There are new icons and features to get used to. Nothing I'd consider "gotta have".

On the positive side, a few apps I use had refused to update without iOS 7; after installing 7.1.1. they installed easily. However, if you don't use any apps that require iOS 7 to update, this is a moot point.

I definitely am never the first in line for ANY new technology, hardware or software! By any chance, do you need any blank 8-track tapes? I have plenty.
