Well sometimes it seems to happen quite a bit. I take your point about the publishers though. What can be really confusing is when the title changes depending on the country where a book is published. Agatha Christie's books come to mind as a prime example. A lot of her books seem to have two different titles depending on if a copy was through the English or American publisher's. I have no idea if James White's books have title changes of the same sort or not.
