I totally agree with you. It be nice to have two, The Original version and then Author's Special Edition or something like that. I would buy the original of course. I have talked to a few authors about this problem and they just don't see it. They have no problem updating or editing their previously published work. It's like they are embarrassed of the older stuff when I think it's a work of art and you should never mess with art once it's done.
