One occupational hazard of lecturing is the common cold. If you stand at the front of a banked lecture theatre then you are likely to catch all the colds around, as students cough, wheeze and sneeze asynchronously in your direction. Usually I catch a cold every autumn. It's rather later than usual this year. To judge by the volume levels of the coughing in the lecture halls, it's a rather severe cold this year.

Get some Vicks vaporub, and rub it all over your chest. Cover with flannel cloth, put warm top on and go to bed.
Put a smear under your nose to clear stuffiness.
My mom did this for me when I was a kid and while it hated the 'ickiness' it really works.
