First of all (as I realised after the fact), you should add the book preview to your Kobo Library BEFORE buying. Then look at the list of books in "My Library" on the Kobo site. If an epub is available, it will say "Download options: Adobe DRM EPUB" for the desired title. If there are no download options, not even PDF, I think that means that kepub is the only available option.

Any other thoughts on this out there?
