You could be right. Makes no sense to me.

Most people don't want 1,000+ books on their reader, never mind a kindle with its poor collection management. I refer specifically to the collections do not stay ordered but hop around although their are other issues.

Still this is obvious even with a few hundred books so why give as much memory as they do?.

The average kindle owner probably doesn't want to buy books elsewhere but why would it prevent them? 100 books are 100 books and 1000 books are 1000 books no matter where you buy them.
