Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been playing with the Oyster app on my phone and Kindle Fire a little. The text flow is weird as you've noticed, but i find that the page turns are smoother and easier on my phone compared to Scribd. I like the clean design of the Oyster site and app even though it's a little harder to navigate than Scribd (for instance no search function on the website though I've used a custom google search of the domain to look for specific titles and authors). So I'll still have to decide which service to choose in a month when both trials are done.
