My thoughts, as well. Besides... I believe calibre's apnx files are actually created "on the fly" when sending books to a device.

I know of no "official" ePub image size limit. I do know of devices/apps that have limits. Any chance it could be (hopefully somewhat easily) made a user-choice?

I've come to realize that many use the KindleUnpack plugin precisely because they want to
avoid having to do a calibre epub to epub conversion.
