It might work better going from docx to ePub using Calibre to convert instead of going doc/docx to HTML. From what I've read of the changes to Calibre, it sounds like the docx conversion might be pretty good. Probably better then the HTML conversion.

I would go docx > ePub via Calibre and then take the ePub into either Edit book in Calibre or Sigil.
